"The journey is part of the adventure — but you should know what you are signing up for before that overnight bus."
Bir Billing sits in Kangra district, Himachal Pradesh. There is no train station in Bir itself. Most guests arrive by road from Delhi, Chandigarh, or Dharamshala (McLeod Ganj). Here is the honest breakdown.
By air — Kangra (DHM) airport
The nearest airport is Gaggal (Dharamshala), roughly 65–70 km from Bir. Flights from Delhi are short but seasonal. From the airport, book a taxi (₹2,500–3,500) or ask us on WhatsApp — we help guests coordinate shared cabs when possible.

By bus — the classic backpacker route
| From | Time | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Delhi ISBT | 12–14 hrs | Overnight Volvo to Baijnath/Palampur, then local to Bir |
| Chandigarh | 7–9 hrs | Fewer daily buses — plan ahead |
| Dharamshala | 2–3 hrs | Shared taxi or bus via Jogindernagar road |
Private taxi — fastest, easiest
From Dharamshala: ~2 hours. From Delhi: 10–12 hours with breaks. Many paragliding weekenders fly into Dharamshala Friday night, taxi to Bir, and book a dorm at Flashpackers for Saturday flying.
